Accessories have the power to complete an outfit, but they also serve another important purpose.  Well-placed accessories can lead the eye where you would like it to go.  Here are a few ways to do this:

  • Face framing necklaces and scarves to bring attention to the face for improved communication, making it ideal for professional occasions.  This is also why men wear ties, they’re like an arrow to the face!
  • Belts to create the illusion of an hourglass figure.  Even if you have a rectangular body, wear a belt underneath a sweater and it will become the outfit’s focal point, drawing the eye in and giving the appearance of a shapely figure.
  • Eyeglasses to bring attention to the eyes — the eyes are the window to the soul.  Depending on the type of glasses you wear, you send your viewers messages about who you are and attract a certain attention to yourself.

One word of caution, it’s easy to overdo it when it comes to accessories.  Make sure your outfit has one dominant focal point rather than several conflicting ones.

OK, your turn.

What are your favorite ways to wear them?
