When I first started Cable Car Couture, we spotlighted modest fashion. Even though that thread has taken a backseat, I loved seeing these modest mavens on the red carpet at the 2012 Golden Globes.
Typically I don’t care for much that Tilda wears on the red carpet. But this outfit was absolutely sensational! It has the perfect blend of yin and yang with the draping skirt and structured jacket. She pulled it off marvelously.
The architectural lines in the sleeves are modern and edgy and this blue couldn’t be better. Somehow with the exaggerated mermaid it is rather reminiscent of The Little Mermaid.
Laura Dern looks like she came straight from the Emerald City in this sparkling gown! It certainly accentuates how long and lithe she is.
The contest is closed and a winner will be announced shortly. Stay tuned!
Mikarose Dresses has classy and beautiful dresses that are great for work, play, and special occasions. Just in time for Mother’s Day, Mikarose has generously donated a $60 gift certificate to put towards a lovely Mother’s day gift!
The Jackie dress is a brand new addition to the Mikarose collection and we chose this vintage-inspired dress to showcase for the Mother’s Day Giveaway. The Jackie dress comes in Persimmon, Moroccan Blue, and Black.
Look #1: Persimmon Jackie dress, drape cardigan, black belt, black ankle strap shoes, black freshwater pearls
Look #2: Persimmon Jackie dress, Asian parasol, gold slinbacks, pearl earrings
Recommendations to wear the Jackie Mikarose dress:
Recommended body types: This dress is great for a triangle, inverted triange, hourglass, rectangular, rounded and tubular body types. The belt helps to create an hourglass-like figure.
Wear a cardigan over top with the belt, or a neutral belt, a la Michelle Obama. The First Lady pulls this look off beautifully!
This dress is great if you have fuller hips and thighs — the full skirt conceals a multitude of sins, my dears.
If you have a short waist, or a long waist, this dress works great!
If you have olive, wheat-colored, or lovely dark skin, the Persimmon color looks terrific.
If you have blue eyes, embrace the Moroccan Blue!
Unless you have either dark or dramatic light hair, the Black may wash you out.

Until July 31, Shabby Apple is having their annual summer sale, Sale for a Sail. Their prices are quite reduced and well worth taking advantage of!
Some of our favorites from the Shabby Abby Sale for a Sail:
The l’Ete faux wrap dress has a lovely collar and a full swing skirt. This A-line skirt is fabulous for complimenting full thighs. Can’t you just see yourself in this one jiving on the dance floor?
The Oxford – and who said modest can’t be sexy? Loving the sweetheart neckline with ruching at the bust, the skinny vintage-style belt and pleats at the bottom. Great for a girl who embraces her curves.
I’ll bet we both know people who are getting married this summer. If you have been wondering what to wear to a wedding this summer, look no further! Cable Car Couture did some sleuthing and found some fabulous dresses to wear to weddings this summer.
IGIGI specializes in fabulous clothing for women sizes 12-32. This classic dress in berry is fully lined and has a fun twist in the front to spice things up. Since we’re all about supporting local business, IGIGI is designed and made in San Francisco, CA.
Here’s a little black dress you can wear again and again. Wouldn’t it look great with a bright belt or scarf to add some color and pizzazz?
This fabulous turquoise dress from Shabby Apple is not only great for solving the “what to wear to a wedding” dilemma, but can be worn all year round! The tie at the neck is darling.
This flirty ruffled Henley dress from Kohl’s made from stretch cotton is a perfect, comfortable choice to wear to a summer wedding. The tie back allows you to adjust your size accordingly.
If the wedding calls for more of a formal flair and you’re wondering what to wear, consider the vintage-inspired Hollywood dress by Mikarose. This gorgeous charcoal dress is will compliment your curves and can be worn again for your formal ball this Christmas.
Since finding modest dresses is a challenge, you may want to invest in a cute cardigan, like this Calvin Klein cardigan, to throw over a strappy or sleeveless dress you fall in love with. You’ll get lots of mileage from a basic black cardigan like this one!
As a final tip, whatever you do, DON’T wear white to a wedding! It’s the brides’ day and there are lots of other beautiful colors to choose from!
Have you decided what to wear to the weddings you’re attending this summer?

Reese Witherspoon, spokeswoman for Avon, wears a Jasmine di Milo sheath dress with lovely ruffles at the neckline. In Style chose a Pringle 1815 dress with a similar design.
Beyonce wears a Elie Saab dress that hugs her curves and accentuates her lovely waistline with darling details on the sleeve. In Style hand picked this Black Halo design as an alternative.
“Pass up the dramatic Dynasty dresses for an easy-to-wear T-shirt shape with strong shoulders. Emma Roberts (far left) did the decade proud in an Myne design; a silk tunic from Diane von Furstenberg (left) will be equally flattering.”
Have you ever noticed how jewelry can really bring an outfit together? Take these snapshots from a recent photo shoot with The Mod Bod, Undertease and Blend Fashions. Each outfit includes bold pieces of jewelry that completes the ensemble.
Beth’s Mod Bod outfit is beautifully complimented by this gold tassel necklace, a personal favorite of Amanda Behrbom, the owner of Blend. Doesn’t jewelry complete the look?
It’s hard to imagine this darling dress and tank top ensemble from Blend and Undertease without the Annie M. necklace. The necklace completes the ensemble!
If you haven’t heard of Shabby Apple you are missing out! No matter — read on and you’ll learn all about them!
Shabby Apple is a modest dress company that began when the owners Emily and CK realized there weren’t enough fabulous dresses on the market that made you feel comfortable and covered, so they took matters into their own hands. Shabby Apple dresses are a return to the one piece outfit — no longer do you have to wear a cardigan or tank top to be fully covered and fabulous!
Cable Car Couture is a big fan of their flirty and sophisticated spring collections! And in a moment, you will be, too…
