Daily Outfit: Lady in Red
Valentines Day totally had me in the mood for wearing red and after doing the Wear One Piece Five Ways with my red blazer, I remixed it one more time last Sunday.
That morning when I was getting ready, I remembered thinking that I didn’t want to overdress and make other people uncomfortable by wearing a fabulous outfit. I was happy to be proven wrong after I received several lovely compliments. It made me think of my favorite quote by Marianne Williamson from A Return to Love:
Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. … And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

This one minute video by Dove follows the evolution of a model. They take a regular woman, do her hair and make-up, take her picture and then subsequently Photoshop the photos. Please take a moment to watch it.

How does this make you rethink the beautiful faces and bodies we emulate in magazines?
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
- Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love
