Daily Outfit: Back in Black [Pinspiration]
I live in Seattle and in my city you see an awful lot of black. We get like 300 days of rain per year, so you can’t blame us for dressing the part. Most days I fight the black on black, but every so often I embrace it. Particularly when we have all this Utah snow as a backdrop!

Today’s Pinspiration.
(Since I hadn’t seen the image for a few weeks, I neglected to add appropriate accessories. I could have always reshot with more jewelry, but I froze half to death for these pictures. So it’s fine.)
Monochromatic outfit rule of thumb: be sure to add texture to add visual interest!

Daily Outfit: Happy Canada Day

What can I say? I bleed red. As a Canadian living in America, every Canada Day I feel it’s my responsibility to fly my flag through my clothes and wear red. That’s what Patriotism is all about, right?

Sunglasses – Nordstrom | Earrings – handcrafted by me | Red dress – Shabby Apple (also worn here and here) | Drape front cardigan – Nordstrom | Red belt – the modbod store | Gold watch – Fossil (similar) |

In other news, I got gum on my shoe during the shoe. At least it was red. And it made for some photos, so hey! We roll with it.

Also, Canada Day was July 1st. A belated happy birthday post to my true north strong and free.
Daily Outfit: Orange Crush

Last week for my birthday, my husband bought me a remote control for my DSLR camera, which essentially remove him from the equation of taking photos for me on a regular basis. Can I just tell you that this remote control feels like a game changer? I have read on other outfit blogs that people prefer the photos they take of themselves far more than the ones anyone else takes for them. After this shoot, I knew exactly what they meant.

Do you ever go for monochromatic outfits like this? What color do you wear?
Daily Outfit: At the Opera

Recently we were in Vancouver to watch my little sister Saundra graduated from high school. The graduation was held at the historic Orpheum Theater, a picturesque setting that regularly houses the opera. Being that our last name is Ward, we slipped out for an impromptu photo shoot from graduates A-T and got these great shots in the process.

This shot of my brothers remind me of the Darjeeling Limited Wes Anderson movie.

And she walks!

Daily Outfit: Semi-Cocktail, Semi-Business Dress Code

After deciding to attend my first Girl Power Hour cocktail networking event in Seattle, I had no idea what to wear. Yeah. Image consultants deal with that, too. I tweeted my girl Kat Kim who was going to be moderating the panel what the dress code was. She suggested semi-cocktail, semi-business. That I could do! So here’s what I came up with.

Earrings: Francesca’s | Red blazer: modbod (similar) | Gold clutch: thrifted (similar) | Navajo print tank: Francesca’s | Gold watch: Fossil (similar) | White pants: Gap | Gold peep-toe shoes: thrifted

Before I left for the event, I tweeted a photo of my outfit on Instagram with the #fitfab hashtag. When I went to introduce myself to Darnell Sue, Girl Power Hour’s founder, she recognized me from the photo I posted. Social media really does open the door to making connections with people.

The Girl Power Hour theme was Fit and Fabulous and the panel had some fantastic things to say. One of my biggest takeaways was to deconstruct your craving. Ask yourself what that craving is really about. Do you need that food or do you really need a hug? Then act on the root cause of it. Check out more Fit and Fabulous takeaways here.

What would you wear for a semi-cocktail, semi-business dress code?
Daily Outfit Blog: Pink and Pearls
When you have short edgy hair like I do, there are days that I just want to wear pink and pearls and feel like a lady. And on Sunday, that’s exactly what I did.

There’s a new thrift shop I found in town recently and the majority of the pieces in the outfit were purchased there for a steal! This entire outfit was probably under $20.
Earrings: blue bijou | Silk blouse: thrifted — for $2! (similar) | Multi-strand pearl necklace: ALDO | Gold oversize watch: Fossil (similar) | Gold clutch: thrifted (similar) | Pleated skirt: clothing swap | Liz Clairborne Gold peep-toe shoes: thrifted

What’s your go-to outfit when you want to feel like a lady?
Daily Outfit: She’s a Brick House

Sunglasses: Nordstrom | Necklace: DIY | Military Jacket: Walmart (!) | Purse: Momentum Handbag | Paisley tunic: Nordstrom Rack (similar) | Watch: Fossil | Pleated skirt: Forever 21 (similar) | Shoes: Born Shoes (similar)
On our way to dinner, I saw this brick wall and had to pull over to take photos. Wouldn’t you? It reminds me of the wonderful photos that we’ve taken with Justin Hackworth over the years, in front of brick just like this. Exhibit A: an oldie but a goodie from when I had longer hair (with a red streak).
Brick is where it’s at, baby.
What’s your favorite photo backdrop?

Daily Outfit: Stripes and Circles
Recently I’ve been inspired by looks of layering a collared shirt underneath a striped pullover.
So I decided to give it a go and loved the results!

I’m on a committee for a regional dance festival for youth in the greater Seattle area and I wore this to one of the dance rehearsals to measure the girls for their costumes. Several teenagers told me how much they loved my outfit which totally made my night!
