Daily Outfit: Mixed Prints — Tips on Pairing Prints

One of the hottest recent fashion trends is mixing prints, but unless done with proper care, it can look like you got dressed in the dark. For best results pairing patterns, follow this framework:
- Combine two prints that share a color scheme.
- Make sure that one print is dominant and the other subordinate. If you have two equally loud patterns, the eye has nowhere to rest.
Denim shirt: Gap thifted | Coral striped tee: Boehme | Gold necklace: handmade | Gold watch: Fossil (similar) | Belt: Target | Tribal Skirt: Forever21 (also worn here) | Wedges: Aerosole from Famous Footwear
Have you tried mixing prints before? What were your results?

Trend Alert: Orange Lipstick
With Tangerine Tango as the color of the year, orange lipstick is all the rage right now.

Orange lipstick has been on my beauty bucket list for weeks. After browsing the counters of Sephora and Clinique but with no luck in finding the right vibrant shade of orange, I definitely wasn’t expecting it to come from Cover Girl. But that’s exactly what happened. The perfect lipstick of the season… at the drug store!

Will you be wearing orange lipstick this season?

Adopt the Fashion Trends That Work for You and Leave the Rest
This weekend I tried on a pair of Born lace-up oxford brogue shoes. I have been eyeballing and secretly coveting a pair of these babies for over a year, envisioning what I could wear them with. But when I got them on my feet at Dillard’s, they didn’t look like me at all.
They were great. But not on me.
Borrowed from menswear, the oxfords just looked like I was wearing boy’s shoes. Since I have short hair, that probably wasn’t making it any better. So, instead of trying to force the issue, I left. Empty handed.
If, like me, you discover a trend you absolutely love doesn’t work for your body type, your personal coloring or personal style, it’s okay. Some fashion trends are better left for other people.
Adopt the fashion trends that work for you, and leave the rest.
Fall 2011 Fashion Trends College Students Can Afford
Here’s a guest post that was published on My Colleges and Careers.
As you go back to college this fall, the weather is cooling down but that doesn’t mean you can’t rock your style this season. Even though tuition costs mean you’re on a budget this semester, here are fall 2011 fashion trends that college students can afford.
- Bright colors will add life to fall days and energize you in the process, helping you make it through that 8am class you know you shouldn’t have signed up for.
- Featured in Lucky Magazine’s October 2011 issue, the Native Indian trend is crossing the cultural divide and it very in right now. This $8 turquoise bangle is a great way to incorporate it into your style.
- Choker necklaces aren’t just for goth girls anymore, they’re going mainstream and are all over the runways. A choker necklace will dress up even your most basic tank tops and tees.
- Polka dots are playful and cute and easy to integrate through accessories like this infinity scarf and rainboots.
- Tunics are a great piece to wear over leggings or skinny jeans and do well to conceal any figure variations you’d rather keep under wraps.
- Lace. If you have a feminine personal style, lace is right up your alley.
- Knit sweaters. As the temperatures drop, knit sweaters will become your new best friend as you cross campus in the cold.
What fall fashion trend will you be adding to your wardrobe this year?
