Cast Your Vote: Which Rivet & Sway Frames Look Best?

It felt like Christmas when my home try-on kit arrived from Rivet & Sway this weekend and I have spent the last few days trying on the different frames. Since I’m having a difficult time deciding, so I open it up to you: you readers are so fashionable and have great taste, so I’d love to get your two cents. Here are the candidates:

A: The Spitfire | B: The Hungry Heart | C: The Poetic License (since I already have several pairs of round glasses, this one probably isn’t a real contender)

Side view:

Front view:

Gosh, that’s a lot of pictures of my face. Since some look better from certain angles, I wanted to give you the full skinny.

My criteria:

  • something red or tortoiseshell frames
  • something different than something I already have (since I have two pairs of round frames, this rules out the Poetic License)
  • to flatter my face, something with vertical depth in the frames
  • something fun

Would love to hear your two cents!

Eyeglasses Lessons Learned from the Rivet & Sway Pop-Up Shop

Have you heard of Rivet & Sway? They’re a designer women’s eyeglasses company based in Seattle providing at-home try-on services. When I was working with Ellen Rowan on her image recently, she extended a lovely invitation to Rivet & Sway’s Pop Up Shop at Swink Style Bar.

Sarah and Britt at the Pop Up Shop at Swink Style Bar

It was such a treat to meet Britt, Sarah, and Ritzy, the team behind Rivet & Sway, and see their frames up close and personal. These gals are the kind of women you’d love to have around everyday — delightful, complimentary, and darling. Ritzy, the Personal Stylist for Rivet & Sway, is living proof that your career can be decided by your parents by your name!

Talking glasses geometry with Sarah, Ritzy and Britt of Rivet & Sway

I love a good pair of glasses and learned several great lessons from trying on Rivet & Sway’s frames:

  1. Don’t knock it till you try it. Give it a try! Step outside your comfort zone and try on styles that you may not have looked at otherwise. I have never owned a pair of cat-eye glasses before, but I have to say that the Spitfire frames were absolutely enchanting!
  2. There’s a geometry to consider. There are all sorts of lines at play in your face shape, your eye shape, your eyebrows, your bone structure, and the way that they interact with your frames.

Trying the Punchline frames in Neopolitan with Britt from Rivet & Sway

  3. It all boils down to personal preference. Even though everything may align stylistically between you and a frame, it may still not work with your personal preference. Styling isn’t an exact science because even though it could look perfect from an outsider’s perspective, it might not fit with your preference. It’s always wise to accept other people’s two cents, just remember that at the end of the day, your decision is the one that counts.

Trying on the Six Shooter from Rivet & Sway. Can't get enough of this color!

One of my favorite pairs of the night was the Hungry Heart. It just looks so natural.

The Hungry Heart. (Many thanks to Tim for the great mirror shot)

If you’re considering a pair of stylish spectacles, definitely check out Rivet & Sway for fab frames and convenient at-home try-on’s!

Do you wear glasses? How did you decide on your last pair of frames?

TechnoChic: Futuristic Collection by BurdaStyle

Growing up, I embarked on crazy sewing projects with my mom and just recently, I borrowed a sewing machine and serger from a friend to work on a flamenco skirt project. Now that I have a sewing machine in my house, all of a sudden the fashion opportunities seem limitless and I am itching to bring new clothes into fruition!

So when I saw BurdaStyle‘s new September patterns, a futuristic new collection called TechnoChic, and this Scuba Dress, it made me want to start a whole new sewing project. This dress has some lovely feminine interior lines, enhanced with contrasting fabrics, that is so streamlined and sophisticated. Paired with the Leather Bolero, this is one smoking outfit!

While I’ve never purchased one of BurdaStyle’s patterns, I fancy doing so rather frequently since they have the option to purchase patterns online and download and print a PDF at home — no more trips to the store! Plus, each month they release a new fashion forward collection that will have you wanting to dig out your sewing machine (or borrow one, like me) and get cracking.

Do you sew your own clothes? Have you done any fun DIY projects recently?

Currently Coveting: JewelMint Arabian Flavored Jewelry

A couple months back, my good friend SherRon from Shoes to Lose gifted me a pair of JewelMint Navajo-inspired earrings that I’ve barely taken off since then.

As you may know, JewelMint is the brainchild of actress Kate Bosworth and her celebrity stylist Cher Coulter. Every month they create a new collection and give you the chance to buy any piece from it for $29.99. I’ve been watching the collections for a while and am seeing quite a few things that are covet-worthy. Here’s some of my favorites from JewelMint’s collection right now with a decided Arabian flavor.

JewelMint Gypsy Queen Earrings

JewelMint Sahara Blust Belt

JewelMint Arabian Romance Bracelet

Wear One Piece Five Ways – Tribal Skirt

Just because an item of clothing is designed as a skirt doesn’t meant that’s the only way you can wear it. Today’s Wear One Piece Five Ways segment shows the versatility of a skirt and demonstrates how this tribal skirt from Forever21 can be worn as a dress, a tube top, and even a scarf!

This Mikarose dress serves as a lovely Audrey Hepburn-esque top when layered underneath the tribal skirt.

When paired with leggings, an Eddie Bauer jacket, a belt, and beaded flats from Report, this tribal skirt passes wonderfully for a dress!

Mix the tribal print together with a striped tee in a similar color for a harmonious effect, then layer a chambray shirt overtop tied at the waist with Aerosoles wedges for a fun and relaxed summer look.

When you wear the tribal skirt as a dress, layer another skirt overtop, the skirt becomes a tube top and is stunning when paired with a jacket and Vince Camuto sandals!

Roll up the tribal skirt and wear it as a stylish scarf instead! This modbod top repeats the color scheme beautifully and worn with thrifted leather harem pants, you get an edgy look that’s perfect for Saturday night!

How They Wore a Tribal Skirt

Here’s how five fabulous style blogger’s wear a tribal midi skirt!

What I’d Wear to the Oscars

Earlier today I pinned a gorgeous golden gown so reminiscent of the ornate ancient Egyptian sarcophogi that I subsequently tweeted. One of my Twitter friends, Spencer @nbcphotog, quipped, “Is that what you’re wearing to the Oscars tonight?” Which got me thinking:

What would I wear to the Oscars?

Here are some things I’ve pinned on Pinterest that have me wishing for an Oscar invite.

Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2012

What would you wear to the Oscars?
